Jimmy Jibs

Adrian Croome - Jimmy Jib Owner Operator

About Adrian

Adrian has been a freelance Jimmy Jib specialist since 1998. He started working in post production at The Mill Film. Knowing he wanted to be a camera operator he then moved to Picture Canning Company, one of Londons leading equipment hire houses.

It was his time at Picture Canning Co that he became their in-house Jib operator. Initially working as the tech and with time stepping up to operator. Finally deciding to go freelance in 1998. Since then Adrian has been involved in every type of television production. From high end drama, to live multi camera shows, music performances, children’s TV, puppets, studio quiz show to large outside broadcasts.

The Jimmy Jib has become the industry standard for television production. Portable, stable and versatile, it can add so much to your production. With multiple size and base options it is possible to create some truly stunning content. Adrian currently has three Jimmy Jibs available to hire. Two kits up to 18ft long and one up to 40ft. With each kit going up in 3ft sections, starting with the smallest length at 6ft.

Location Jibs

For location work we can offer a smaller compact three wheeled base or for larger cranes, when used on track, or uneven ground the four wheeled base. The modular system of the jib allows you to get the perfect size for the shots needs. The way it packs down into compact 3ft lengths then allows you to get the jib into locations where larger cranes can’t get, up stairs in tight buildings and even on roof tops.

Studio Jibs

A Jib is pretty much standard kit for most studio shows these days. With custom made studio ped base we are able to add another level of creativity to the shots, tracking the base “live” on shot. This makes fast repos or much more dramatic shots.

Off Road Jib

Whilst jibs can go onto grass and rough ground with their standard bases, Adrian realised there was a much better and safer solution. That’s where the Off Road Jib, John Deere gator relocation vehicles came from. This now allowed you to get a jib to locations previously not possible. Then reposition it, quickly and safely. Allowing for a lot more productivity. Perfect on a drama, where you need to be in and out of set quickly. For several years Adrian provided the Off Road Jib to Springwatch. Making quick, long repositions of the jib, during a live show in remote locations.

Live Music

Live music is such a pleasure to film. There is nothing better than working with talented musicians and production team.

Adrian has worked on so many music show. From The BBC Proms, Celtic Conections, festivals, large concerts to intermit performances. Scripted music numbers or just going with the flow, Adrian is happy with either.

Drama

Crafting the perfect shot to tell the story

Adrian has had the pleasure on working on many high end dramas over the years. The collaboration between the director, DOP and cast is so rewarding to be involved with. A few shows Adrian has worked on are, Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, Brassic, Broadchurch and DCI Banks

Live TV

Performing under pressure

There is such a buzz from coming off air after a live broadcast. This could be a studio show or large national event. Being able to get the shot is vital. Over the years Adrian has built up a vast amount of experience of live TV and large events.

Remote Camera Specialist

As a Jimmy Jib operator you use a remote head or hot head as part of the jib. This specialist skill means that we are more than happy to use other remote heads. This could be a simple remote head in a static position or the latests remote camera technology.

Hot Heads

A camera attached to a static position. Adrian has been using hotheads for years on many sports events, concerts, Royal services in cathedrals to Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Tower Cam

A camera on a column that can be raised and lowered. Controlled by foot pads. These camera platforms can achieve some dramatic shots and can be mounted upside down. Adrian has used them on sports coverage and music concerts.

Tracking Camera

A camera mounted on a sled that runs on tracks or is slung from wires across a space. Again the side to side position of the camera is controlled by foot peddles. Systems such as the Furio also allow the camera to be raised and lowered on shot.
